The doors slid open, and I was ushered into a new land of wine… a place with an entire wall stacked five shelves high with bottles of beautiful, glistening bottles of wine. How have I driven past this place twice a day, every day, for the last nine years and not known it was here????
Grocery Outlet. Yes, just past the rainbow logo and signs emblazoned with “Discounts!” and “Savings” was a entire corner of the store filled with wines from all over the world.
I had a mission: get the most value I can out of a $25 gift card. Looking at the price tags starting under $5, I realized this could take a while. So many choices, so many values!
I’ll admit there were many labels I’ve never heard of, but then I saw one shining from an endcap that I know… intimately. Sequin Rose’. Sequin sent me a couple of samples of their newest releases last year to review. It is such a fun wine, and well-worth the regular $14.99 retail price, so imagine how happy I was to find it at Grocery Outlet for $3.99.
After I picked my jaw up off the floor, I grabbed a Mosaic Chardonnay for $8.99 (Alexander Valley, regularly retails for $18); a Novella Petite Sirah for $4.99 (Paso Robles); a Spanish red blend for $4.99; and The Vegan Wine Cabernet Sauvignon for $5.99 (California Central Coast, regularly retails for $18).
Yeah, so for a total of $30 after tax, I took home five wines that otherwise would have cost me almost $70. Oh and by the way, Grocery Outlet is about to celebrate its semi-annual wine sale. November 5-9, all wine at all Grocery Outlets is an additional 20 percent off. Doing some quick math, that means the regular savings of 50-70 percent turns into about an 80 percent savings on wine. I know right now that I’ll be stocking up for holiday parties and gifts during that sale because there’s nothing better than a great sale!
